Wai-O-Topu Volcanic area

We visited one of the many volcanic viewing parks. The entire central area of the North Island is a volcanic wonderland. There are many day walks with beautiful views. The people say that they are 700 years past due for a major eruption and earthquakes are quite prevalent.

We enjoyed the walk and the scenery.

Some of the different colored waters were hot and some were cold. But we kept on the prescribed path. New Zealand is a major vacation spot for much of the world. There were not many Americans, but there were other nations that we are unaccustomed to meeting, at all of the attractions. Many middle easterners. And we felt extremely safe at all times, because NZ is calm and peaceful. I mentioned this to the caretaker of one of the hotels we stayed in and her response was "don't count on it". But her husband reminded her of their visit to Southern Calif. last year and she quickly realized we were correct in our observations.
